BOXCAR THEATER & EVENTS
BOXCAR is a microcinema, live music and performance space, café, and gallery exhibition venue rooted in the spirit of creative collaboration. Inspired by the marks left by travelers and dreamers of the past, BOXCAR aims to be the independent cultural hub for film, music, and alternative art in the Opelika-Auburn-Columbus region, offering a unique experience unlike anything else in the region.
The Challenge
Launching as a new business, BOXCAR had no branding, visual identity, website, or social media presence. Engagement was minimal, the space was still under construction, and there was no established system for communicating with audiences, local artists, or performers.
The Solution
I developed a full brand identity system for BOXCAR, including formal and simplified logos in horizontal and square formats, across four colors and multiple file types for print, web, and digital use. I designed the Squarespace website, integrating a rotating slideshow carousel for weekly events, online forms, and payment systems to centralize bookings and communications. Drawing inspiration from historical hobo symbols, I created custom iconography representing BOXCAR’s offerings—Microcinema, Café, Gallery, Workshops, and Performances—combined with a bold primary font and Courier secondary font to evoke a 20th-century aesthetic. I implemented social media strategies and branded content templates, collaborated with graphic designers for monthly event calendars, and established communication structures for monthly featured artists, performers, and partners. These efforts produced over 1,200 new social media followers in the first month, organically drove live performances and gallery exhibitions, and positioned BOXCAR as a recognized creative and cultural destination in the region.
